Common Start Statement on the MA House Budget

The Massachusetts House released their budget proposal this week, and it includes several new investments in the state's early education and care system. You can read about the proposal in the Boston Globe or in Commonwealth.

Please read our full statement on the MA House budget:

“Over the last 3 years, the Common Start Coalition has elevated the importance of making high-quality early education and childcare affordable and accessible to all Massachusetts families, compensating early educators for the value of their work, and ensuring that providers receive the true cost of quality care. Our message is clearly breaking through.

“The House's budget proposal, if it is ultimately combined with the much-needed extension of C3 stabilization funding using federal funds, would represent a significant down payment on our vision of a child care system that works for everyone. As we move through the budget process, we also hope to see additional help for families who are struggling with the high cost of child care.

“We stand ready to work with the House and Senate to make sure our principles, along with significant new funding, are reflected in the final budget. And we will continue working to win the permanent commitment to affordable, accessible, high-quality, early education and child care that Massachusetts families need.”

We would not be where we are without our incredible activists, volunteers, and coalition partners. Thank you, and let’s keep working to win affordable, accessible, and high-quality early education and care!
