Great News - Our Bill Has Been Reported Out of the Education Committee!

Great news! S.301 — the comprehensive early education and child care legislation we’re supporting — has been reported favorably out of the Education Committee! This means that we are one step closer to advancing the Common Start Vision this year!

This comprehensive early education and child care legislation would provide the specific structure that is needed to deliver affordable care options for families; significantly better pay and benefits for early educators; a permanent, stable source of funding for providers; high-quality programs and services for children; and substantial relief for businesses and our economy. Implementation of the legislation would make Massachusetts significantly more affordable, greatly improve our economic competitiveness, and dramatically increase racial and gender equity.

We want to thank Chair Garlick, Chair Lewis, and all the members of the committee for their thoughtful consideration of the legislation during hearings, community meetings, and visits to child care centers across the state. We look forward to working with the Senate, the House, and the Healey-Driscoll Administration to build on the progress we’ve made together in recent years, and continue making high-quality early education and child care more affordable and accessible to Massachusetts families.

There is more work to be done, but please take a moment to celebrate the milestone we’ve reached! It would not be possible without the work of Common Start coalition partners, advocates, and those who shared their personal stories - thank you for being with Common Start every step of the way.
