Support Childcare – Letter – Falmouth Enterprise

By Robin H. Temple

As the owner of a childcare center in East Falmouth, I hope state legislators will pass legislation this year to address the multiple issues facing the childcare system. Right now, I have a very long waitlist, and there are not enough slots on the Cape for children needing care. This highlights a real economic loss for our community, as parents who want to be in the workforce cannot be for lack of childcare options.

We have been fortunate to receive public funding for the last few years through the state’s “C3” program. These dollars have allowed us to pay our teachers a higher wage without passing the cost on to low- and middle-income families. If those public dollars dry up, this would not be sustainable.

I support the Common Start legislative framework, which would support a system of affordable, high-quality early education and childcare for all.
