“I have two sons - Owen who is 7 and Emmett who is 5. Both boys went to family day care when they infants and toddlers. When Emmett was just 4 months old, we learned that we would be suddenly losing our infant care for him. We were heartbroken and terrified. My husband called over 60 places without any luck. I remember a moment vividly when I was standing in my kitchen and said to my husband that one of us was going to have to quit our jobs because our search seemed hopeless. Thankfully, we finally found a wonderful provider through a friend. But, there was no system to help us - we were on our own. This time period was a blur and incredibly stressful, impacting us financially potentially for the long term and and impacting our ability to be present for our two young children. We are coming to the end of needing childcare but my hope is that Massachusetts can be on the vanguard (as it was with healthcare access) for the rest of the county in an equitable early childhood system.”
